XMAS QUIZ - DEC 2014
I just wanted to drop everybody a quick note to thank you all for a great quiz evening last night.
I was a bit worried before hand that it might not work but everybody entered into the spirit of it (except the table of boys who opened their presents and rushed out after round 1 - bah humbug to you) and I think it worked very well and got everybody into the Christmas spirit!
The idea of the evening was to try and make sure everybody had a present at the start of the evening , difficult when I wasn't sure of numbers. I gambled on about 130 and we weren't far off!
Collecting that number of presents was going to be a challenge because for every £1 of entry money we spent it meant less fund raising for the junior cricket and hockey sections.
This is where the fantastic sponsors came in with their extremely generous donations
Searchability - The Cricket and hockey main sponsor - Wow two top spec tickets and on ground car parking for Manchester Utd vs Leicester. The silent Auction raised £135 for this great prize.
Forresters - Our new sponsors for the Sportsman Lunch donated a number of bottles of festive cheer and some great office gear. Fantastically generous of Ross and the team.
Willaston Physio - Our club and Cricket and Hockey sponsor kindly donated a full sports massage and a large number of stress balls! (Remember all members now get 10% discount).
Sportsville - Our very own Mr Bourne , showed his supremacy and kindly gave us two exceedingly generous gift vouchers and a couple of very dubious but expensive swimsuits. Not sure who won them!
Investec - As ever a great sponsor to the sports section and another fantastic donation of a number of excellent office items from Jason
Gordale - A great supporter of the club who took a lot of time getting some questions together and donated four top puzzle prizes.
The Red Fox - The new restaurant where the Grange used to be (sadly missed by both sections) but replaced by an absolutely fabulous restaurant , please make the effort to go there in the new year it is outstanding food and service. This new venture very kindly donated two three course meals with wine for two.
Paragon Sports - also sponsor of the cricket section gave a very generous supply of books and signed bats. Many thanks Richard.
Woodstock - an outstanding independent cricket bat and kit maker from Shropshire who we have formed an excellent relationship with. A number of the adults and juniors already use these top quality bats, remember to say you are from Neston Cricket Club to get your discount. A great donation of a kit bag from John.
Nicholls - Our Scoreboard sponsor ,kindly donated ice cream vouchers , many thanks Bill
Tesco - the big fellas came up trumps with the mince pies , better than the other local supermarkets in their generoisty!
O'Neills - Our kit supplier kindly gave us some excellent sports kit.
Yodel - The delivery company I work for kindly donated water bottles and T-shirts, Don't believe everything in the press we have delivered a lot of parcels on time this Christmas !
On top of this we purchased a number of bottles of champagne, wine, chocolates ,jaffa cakes, discounted socks and gift sets - the list goes one. Even got a few samples from Harvey Nicholls !
All added up to about 130 presents.
Nibbles, crisps, mince pies kept the brainpower stoked up!
So tallying up the evening the draft figures are
£ 615 on the door (£5 entry fee)
£135 silent auction
Less expenditure of £150 and prizes, food etc .
Gives us a profit of £600 to be split between the junior hockey and cricket sections.
Also not forgetting the boost to bar takings on quiet Sunday night
A few thank you's
To all the hard working people who helped set up on the evening , Chris & Carole Leary, Gary & Carol Lewis, The Russell family, The Harrop's and Cowley's with special mention to Matt, Mia & Jack for their help throughout the evening. Phil Smith, Michelle Roscoe & of course Sally & Tony Bush.
To Lily and Beth for the technical bits, you would never believe I run an IT department!
To Jack , Tom, Tom, Mike,,Harry, Dan and the other doorman/bouncers!!
Last but by no means least to Gav, Simon, Nick and Luke for all their hard work , going from hectic children's party to us in 15 minutes and clearing up late into the evening!
Hopefully it has got you all into the Christmas spirit
Have yourself a very Merry Christmas and all the best on and off the sports field in 2015.
